Really, DeviantArt, were you always this difficult to navigate?

Opening up my account after being away for so long feels like rifling through an old desk. Ooh, what's in this drawer? What's in this folder? I don't remember drawing that... What was I thinking?!

It's an odd blend of nostalgia and surprise.

After not drawing for quite some time, I start to think that somehow I've forgotten how, and then I start to get the creeping fear that I'll never draw again, and then I don't try because maybe I'll find out that I couldn't draw in the first place, and then the fear becomes a certainty, which is much easier to deal with.

But for some reason I'm here again. And annoyingly I'm still as uncertain as ever. Years have done nothing to erase that. Well they wouldn't, would they? Only effort can erase that.

On a Heidi Hunt

2 min read
I'm looking for a Heidi. And by Heidi I mean a specific edition of the book by Johanna Spyri.

It's a book I read years ago, though I suspect I didn't so much as read but rather look at the pictures. But the only thing I can remember from the book is that it had a picture that looked something like this:

The actual picture would obviously more professional than my dodgy rough sketch. And it was most definitely in colour; I think gouache, certainly something bright and opaque.

I am now on a mission to find this book! If anyone could recommend any possibilities, I'd be very grateful.

Because if I can't find it, then the alternative must be that I travel back in time and illustrate an edition of Heidi myself.

I got hit by a truck earlier this year. I had stopped to make a turn across on-coming traffic and the truck just drove straight into me, shooting me across the road and into someone's gate post. Apparently his brakes failed. It didn't help that it had been raining, and it was a 6tonne truck. Physics, you know.

Don't worry, I wasn't hurt; nothing broken or damaged, except for the car, which was a write-off. And thankfully no one else was in the car with me. In retrospect, I probably should have been able to walk away from that crash, but since I've never been in a car accident before the whole experience was rather shocking. I ended up being taken to the hospital in an ambulance, but I was discharged a few hours later.

Anyway, I would like to make a plea for everyone to drive safely. Whether you're a driver or you're going to learn soon, please pay attention to what's happening on the road (and this includes what's behind you), and to drive at a speed that will allow you to safely stop in your current road conditions.

Other than that, enjoy your journey. ^_^
